Community Training and Assistance Center

March 2010

Dear Friends:

It is a pleasure to announce that Gerald W. Kohn has been recognized as National Superintendent of the Year by the National Superintendents Roundtable. Dr. Kohn has served as Superintendent of the Harrisburg School District in Pennsylvania since 2001, and is a long-time member of the CTAC Board of Directors.

Dr. Kohn was selected in recognition of the substantial progress that Harrisburg School District has made during his tenure. Most notably, in 2008 SciTech High, an accelerated alternative high school, aced state exams, including a 100% success rate on the writing exam, and graduated 100% of the students, all of whom continued on to college. Also under Dr. Kohn's leadership, district enrollment has grown by more than 30%, school dropout rates have decreased by 58%, and student achievement on state assessments has both improved steadily and been sustained. Additionally, early childhood education opportunities have significantly increased and serve as a national exemplar.

Please join CTAC in congratulating Dr. Kohn for his achievements and for his commitment to educational excellence and improving the lives of students.

Best Regards,
William J. Slotnik, Executive Director
