BOSTON - January 21, 2003 - The Community Training and Assistance Center (CTAC) has been chosen to assess student achievement in the Berkeley Unified School District. The Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team (FCMAT) issued a request for proposals, and selected CTAC as the provider for the assessment of pupil achievement.

Beginning immediately, CTAC will evaluate the degree of implementation of more than 70 standards representing key requirements for the education of California youth. Based on data collected in interviews, student assessments, demographic analysis, artifacts and documents, and classroom observations, CTAC staff is reporting findings, developing improvement plans with six-month benchmarks, and conducting on-going monitoring through 2005.

Funding for the assessment was established by the California legislature in AB 2859, Chapter 1069 Statutes of 2002.
